1:1 Chromebook Information for Parents

With excitement and anticipation, Oneonta Middle School is looking forward to the launch of a 1:1 Chromebook initiative for all 7th & 8th grade students beginning with the 2017- 2018 school year.

A Chromebook is a laptop-like device that is built around the web experience with offline capabilities. Every 7th & 8th grade student will be assigned a device for use during the school year and will be allowed to take them home each night. The purpose of this initiative is to use modern technology tools to fully engage students and create a learning environment that fosters critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity.

This is a very exciting time for the Oneonta Middle School and we look forward to providing students with modern learning tools and the skills necessary to be successful in the 21st century. Problem solving, communication, and collaboration skills will be enhanced and will help build a foundation for college and career readiness. The 1:1 initiative will provide real world, relevant experiences that will better prepare our students to compete in a technology-rich workplace.

Families will be encouraged to purchase insurance for their child’s Chromebook. Information regarding this insurance is included in this packet. The Chromebook is valued at $200 and the district’s operating budget fully funds this initiative. The annual insurance policy is $20.00. This will fully cover unintentional and non-negligent damage or loss of the device.

As always, we thank you in advance for your understanding and support of this initiative as we strive to positively transform the learning environment for all of our students.
