1:1 Chromebook Information for Parents

Oneonta Middle School has a 1:1 Chromebook program for all OMS students.

A Chromebook is a laptop-like device that is built around the web experience with offline capabilities. Every student will be assigned a device for use during the school year and will be allowed to take them home each night. The purpose of this program is to use modern technology tools to fully engage students and create a learning environment that fosters critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity.

We look forward to providing students with modern learning tools and the skills necessary to be successful in the 21st century. Problem solving, communication, and collaboration skills will be enhanced and will help build a foundation for college and career readiness. The 1:1 initiative will provide real world, relevant experiences that will better prepare our students to compete in a technology-rich workplace.

Families will be encouraged to purchase insurance for their child’s Chromebook. Information regarding this insurance will be provided to parents and posted here when available. The Chromebook is valued at $250 and the district’s operating budget fully funds this initiative. The annual insurance policy is $20.00. This will fully cover unintentional and non-negligent damage or loss of the device.

As always, we thank you in advance for your understanding and support of this program as we strive to positively transform the learning environment for all of our students.
