Research Project #1:
New York Regions (Travel Brochure) Slide Show Forms
Students in our Fourth Grade Social Studies and Library classes will complete a digital version of a travel brochure for an assigned region of New York State. They will complete most of the project during their Library time with the Library-Media Specialist, Mrs. Forbes. As with any project, this will go through a series of steps for research and writing. We began with a review of basic geography and map skills during Social Studies class. We studied the geography, climate and natural resources of New York State in Unit 1. We will learn to research and take notes on New York City to use as an example. Then we will compose a well-written summary together as a class. The students will research, take organized notes, and write their own summaries of assigned regions in the Library. They will work in small groups or independently. Any student who would like to research an additional region as a special challenge may feel free to do so once instruction has been given on the process.
We will use the following websites for your research:
New York's Regions
Thousand Islands Seaway Region
Adirondacks Region
New York City
Long Island
Capital-Saratoga (Mohawk) Region
Hudson Valley Region
The Catskill Region
The Finger Lakes Region
Central Leatherstocking Region
The Greater Niagara Region
Chautauqua Allegheny Region
