SCHOOL TAX

School tax bills are mailed to taxpayers at the beginning of September every year. They are accepted by the School Tax Collector for 60 days, at which point all unpaid school taxes are returned to their respective counties for collection.

School tax bills are also available on the following website:
Select your County > From the list of School Districts > Select Oneonta

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
If you believe your bank or mortgage company escrows for your taxes (your monthly mortgage amount includes a tax escrow payment) and you receive a tax bill, please call the bank or company holding your mortgage to confirm. If your bill should have been directed to your mortgage company, please contact the Real Property Tax Office in your respective county to have this adjustment made on future Tax Bills.

Failure to receive a tax bill does not relieve you of your responsibility for payment. It also will not constitute cause for cancellation of any penalty if the bill becomes delinquent. (New York State Real Property Tax Law 922) If you do not receive a tax bill, please contact the tax collector at the number above to obtain a copy of your tax bill or you may obtain a copy of your bill at www.taxlookup.net.

STAR PROGRAM:
New York homeowners can reduce their school taxes through the statewide school tax relief program, STAR.
For complete eligibility information and to register for the STAR credit visit: STAR resource center.

TOWN ASSESSORS:
Please contact your local assessor if you currently receive the STAR credit on your primary residence and have questions; need to file for or have questions regarding other exemptions (i.e. Agricultural, etc.); require a change of address, or have questions regarding your assessment.
