FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why doesn't my floppy disk work???
1. How old is the disk? Sometimes older disks have trouble working. Create a backup of your important info before the disk gets too old.
2. If the disk has been used before, has it been taken out of the drive while the light was still on? Taking a disk out while the light is still on can destroy the disk.
3. Try running a recovery program. We have one in Computer Services if you don't have one. A good program try try is BadCopy by Jufsoft. It is $40, but it is worth it.
4. Sometimes companies have bad batches of disks. Try another disk. If several still fail on the same drive, it could be the drive. Contact Computer Services via email, phone or the service request site located here.
5. Is the shutter still on? That's the silver or black sliding door that covers the mylar disk, (Usually it's silver or black, though it can be another color depending on the manufacturer). Missing this piece can cause disk problems.
6. Sometimes a shutter can come off another disk and still be in the drive. Contact Computer Services via email, phone or the service request site located here if you suspect this is the case.
