From January 2006 to June 2006 we will implement a pilot project focused on these 9 elementary teachers within just two buildings entitled the Technology-Enabled Teacher program. This program will allow us to create learning communities within each of our schools. Interested teachers were required to apply to be part of the program with a partner or even a team of other teachers from their building; library media specialists were encouraged to be a part of a team.
The premise behind the program is to offer those teachers who are interested the opportunity to be exposed to a variety of technology skills and curricular technology resources in a thoughtful way. By “paying” participants with needed and useful technologies (up to $4000 worth of classroom computer technology per school), the program will ensure regular influx of updated technologies into our district. At the same time, teachers are provided with the appropriate training to make use of these new resources.
The above teachers will participate in monthly staff development sessions and will have guaranteed curricular technology support in their classrooms at the time they introduce a new program. They have agreed to present the final results of their respective projects to the district during the fall of 2006.
Please join us in congratulating them. If the pilot project goes
well and the program is offered again, perhaps you too can be a future
Technology-Enabled Teacher!
