Philosophy:
The Oneonta School District recognizes
the importance of the early years as crucial for laying the foundation
for the physical, intellectual, social and emotional development of
young
children. The district applies for and receives a grant from New York
State
each year to fund this program.
Program:
- The Pre-kindergarten Program is
intended
to provide the young child with a comfortable, secure and inviting
transition
from home to school. Part of our program includes introducing the
children
to physical education class, music class, the library and
the
computer lab.
Daily
Schedule:
- Calendar Opening/Story Time
- Activity Time
- Clean-up
- Snack
- Outside Activity Time
Other
things of interest:
We take monthly field trips to
introduce
the children to different aspects of their community. Also, we work in
collaboration with SUNY Oneonta, Opportunities for Otsego, Fox
Hospital, Oneonta
Community
Education Center, Family Services and other local agencies. Pre-K also
provides various activities for the students and their families to do
together
after school hours. Some of our Family Night activities include sharing
a snack meal with their parents which the children have helped prepare,
making
simple bird feeders, decorating pumpkins, Computer Night where the
children
demonstrate their computer skills to their parents and an Exploring
Science Night.
