Reading Is FUNdamental!

RIF brings the magic of books and reading
to all elementary school children in the Oneonta City School District.

"Fall In Love With Books"
Three times a year, Oneonta RIF brings an exciting selection of children's books to Greater Plains and the other four elementary schools in the OCSD.  Three times a year, every student from pre-kindergarten through sixth grade has the opportunity to choose a free book to take home and keep for his or her very own.  Each year, Oneonta RIF distributes more than 4,000 free books to the elementary school children in our community.

...And reading them!

The RIF logo with its smiling book face invites our children
to discover the joy of reading.

Oneonta RIF was established in 1974, and is one of the oldest RIF programs in the country.  Oneonta RIF was the first RIF program to be established in a rural community.  Oneonta RIF is coordinated by Barbara Jo Beck.  All Oneonta RIF personnel are volunteers...concerned parents, teachers, and librarians who truly believe that reading is fundamental.   RIF places emphasis upon the "fun" of reading, to help children discover the magical world of books through such motivational activites as "Read a Book with a Buddy," "Reading Safari," and "Read Me A Story!" Oneonta RIF encourages the children of Oneonta to believe reading is fun, fundamental, and fantastic!
