Primary Project
The
Primary Project at GP is an early intervention program designed to help
children with school adjustment, leading to a more positive school
experience.
Children selected to participate are helped to develop positive self
images,
practice appropriate social skills and model behaviors that will
promote
learning.
Students
are recommended by classroom teachers, school professionals or parents
as being children who would benefit from this program. A trained
child associate meets individually with selected students once a week
to
provide one-on-one attention and caring support. They engage in
playroom
activities geared toward meeting goals established by the school
staff.
Crafts, puppets, toys, games, role playing and discussion are used to
help
children develop good social skills, increase self confidence, and/or
decrease
acting out behavior. On occasion, a classmate might be invited to come
along to provide a peer relationship.
Parent
input, suggestions, and conferences are welcome. If you would
like
more information about Primary Project, please call the school guidance
counselor, Jeanne Shea,
or the child associate, Susan Primmer, at 433-8288.
