8th grade ELA students are participating in the Essay Contest, "If I were Mayor I would...", with the help of ELA teachers Mrs. Osterhoudt and Mrs. Hardison. All 8th grade students participate in this essay contest, and have had lessons on Oneonta City Government followed by a visit from Mayor Herzig. The Mayor discussed his job and held a question and answer session with the kids. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to understand local government, and the Mayor was equally impressed with the thoughtful questions from our middle school students. This 8th grade essay contest is a part of the New York State Conference of Mayors and Municipal Officials.
