Colonial New York
In 1492, Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue!
Actually, Columbus sailed the Atlantic Ocean from Europe to America. Later, other voyages were made to the Americas by European explorers. Countries in Europe soon wanted to be in power of all the natural resources the Americas had to offer. By the 1600s, the French, British and Dutch had explored the Atlantic Coast of what is now the United States of America. The explorers were followed by many Europeans who came to the "New World" to start a new life. Let's learn more about the events that made New York State a colony of Great Britain.
