This fall the Oneonta High School is looking forward to the launch of a 1:1 Chromebook initiative for all 9th, 10th, 11th & 12th grade students. The transition to 1:1 Chromebooks was started in the Oneonta Middle School last August and supports the vision for Instructional Technology.
A Chromebook is a laptop-like device that is built around the web experience with offline capabilities. Every 9th, 10th, 11th & 12th grade student will be assigned a device for use during the school year and will be allowed to take that device home each night. The purpose of this initiative is to use modern technology tools to fully engage students and create a learning environment that fosters critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity.
We look forward to providing students with modern learning tools and the skills necessary to be successful in the 21st century. Problem solving, communication, and collaboration skills will be enhanced and will help build a foundation for college and career readiness. The 1:1 initiative will provide real world, relevant experiences that will better prepare our students to compete in a technology-rich workplace.
Families will be encouraged to purchase insurance for their child’s Chromebook. Information regarding this insurance is included in this packet. The Chromebook is valued at $249, and the district’s operating budget fully funds this initiative. There are two insurance options being offered. The enclosed form outlines these options. Insurance sign-up is open now and will go through August 24th. https://gpo.worthavegroup.com/gpo/oneontacsd
As always, we thank you in advance for your understanding and support of this initiative as we strive to positively transform the learning environment for all of our students.
