Zoom FAQ

Q: Does my child need to create a Zoom account?
A: No.  Zoom accounts are not appropriate for students under the age of 13.  Zoom sessions with teachers will not require the students to have/use a personal Zoom account

Q: How can I best prepare my student for Zoom video conferencing?
A: We find this resource from Common Sense Media to be very useful.

Q: Does my child need to have their camera on during a Zoom session?
A: We find that learning and instruction take place the most effectively when teacher and student can see one another. Therefore, your child's camera must be on during instruction sessions, unless you have made a special arrangement with your classroom teacher.

Q:  Will Zoom sessions with my child be recorded?
A:  Because students may miss remote Zoom sessions, teachers will record the sessions and provide the recording link on the secure Schoology course page.  This will allow any student to review any given instructional session. These recorded Zoom sessions will not be posted on social media or in any insecure location.

Q: Do we need to install Zoom on our home computer?
A: If you child will be participating in remote instruction on your home computer, then you will need Zoom installed on that computer.
