The FIRST Robotics Competition is an international high school robotics competition organized by FIRST, which aims to inspire youth interest in science and technology. Each year, teams compete to build robots can play that year's game. The friendly competition is all about inspiring youth to create, collaborate, and innovate.
Each January, teams get a standard kit of parts and game details at an internationally simulcast “kickoff” event. Teams then have six weeks to build a competitive robot with the help of volunteer mentors and sponsors. The robot must be able operate by pre-written code as well as by remote control, to accomplish pre-set tasks, which are different each year.
