The NYS Seal of
Biliteracy is an award given to students who have achieved a high level of
proficiency in English and one other language by high school graduation. The Seal of Biliteracy encourages students to
continue studying world languages and embrace their native or heritage languages. The Seal may be awarded to any student
receiving a Regents diploma who has demonstrated an Intermediate High level of
proficiency in a English and a World Language, or demonstrated proficiency on a
validated exam for English language learners.
The Seal will provide colleges, universities, and employers with a way to identify individuals with advanced language skills.
