President Dwight Eisenhower established the first Law Day in 1958 to mark the nation's commitment to the rule of law. In 1961, Congress issued a joint resolution designating May 1 as the official date for celebrating Law Day.
Each year, the Otsego County Bar Association hosts a Law Day celebration in Cooperstown. Prior to the event, students from the local schools meet with a committee of lawyers to discuss a current issue relating to the law. From among those students, one student is chosen as the Liberty Bell Award Winner.
Paul was nominated for participation by the teachers in the Social Studies department and was chosen as this year’s winner.
