Effort to Provide Fire Extinguishers to Oneonta Families
fire safetyValleyview 4th grade teacher Melanie Ferrara has partnered with Oneonta resident Erika Heller to help families receive the life-saving tools they would need in the event of a home fire.  After a house fire took the life of Heller's brother-in-law one year ago, awareness of life-saving measures has been heightened and when an unexpectedly hugh number of students recently returned PTO raffle forms for free smoke detectors, emergency ladders, and fire extinguishers, Ferrara and Heller decided to take action.  They have begun a fundraising campaign aimed towards raising $1500 to fill life-saving "wishlist" items.  Local businesses may make donations, as may individuals, by sending a check to Valleyview Elementary School made out to the Valleyview PTO or by buying something and bringing it to the school.  Contact Melanie Ferrara at Valleyview School for more information.
