On Thursday, September 12, the Oneonta Middle School field came alive with laughter, conversation, and a true sense of community during the Welcome Back BBQ & Movie Night, hosted by the OMS Student Council and PTO.
It was one of those evenings you could not have planned more perfectly. Clear skies, warm air, and plenty of space for families to gather created the ideal setting for a night of fun and connection. From the moment you stepped onto the OMS field, you could feel the excitement all around you. Kids were everywhere, tossing footballs, serving volleyballs, kicking soccer balls across the grass, and laughing as they worked together to get the giant parachute high into the air so younger siblings could run underneath. The sound of pure joy echoed across the field as families reconnected after the summer break.
The PTO and Student Council worked hard to make the evening welcoming and fun for all. They served up a delicious BBQ dinner that brought everyone together. After dinner, families cozied up with their lawn chairs and blankets for the highlight of the night, an outdoor showing of How to Train Your Dragon (Live Action) on a giant projector screen. As the sun set and the screen glowed under the evening sky, it felt like the perfect ending to a perfect night.
The event was incredibly well attended, with students, families, teachers, and staff coming together to celebrate the start of a new school year. The field was filled with smiles, hugs, and conversations, a beautiful reminder of what makes the OMS community so special. As the credits rolled on the big screen and families began to pack up their chairs and blankets, there was a shared feeling of gratitude in the air. This night was not just about food and a movie. It was about connection, community, and the promise of a wonderful year ahead at Oneonta Middle School.
