In honor of Veterans Day, Oneonta Middle School students proudly participated in the Field of Flags Fundraiser through Disabled American Veterans (DAV), raising money to support ill and injured heroes across the nation.
Each flag displayed represents a veteran and OMS’s collective commitment to honoring those who have sacrificed so much for our country. Students rallied around the cause, competing by house to raise funds and fill the cafeteria windows with small American flags in their house colors, each representing a donation made.
The results were nothing short of inspiring. OMS students raised $1,542, tripling their original goal of $500. Their efforts placed the school 36th out of 526 fundraisers nationwide, contributing to a collective total of $305,252.89 raised for veterans through DAV’s program.
At the end of the day on Monday, seven OMS students installed 144 American flags outside the school, spaced three feet apart to create a striking Field of Flags. The display will remain on the front lawn for one week as a powerful reminder of the bravery and sacrifice of those who have served and continue to serve our country. Each flag, made in the USA, proudly waves as a symbol of gratitude, freedom, and unity.
When the fundraiser came to a close, House Viribus was crowned the top fundraising house for their teamwork and school spirit.

The Oneonta Middle School community joins the Oneonta City School District in extending our sincere gratitude to all veterans for their service and to every student, family, and community member who contributed to this meaningful cause. Together, our Yellowjackets proudly honor those who have given so much for the freedoms we cherish.
