The 2025-2026 school year is officially underway, and the excitement across the Oneonta City School District could be felt from the moment the first students arrived. From kindergarteners stepping into school for the very first time to seniors beginning their last year, the day was filled with anticipation, smiles, and the unmistakable pride of being a Yellowjacket.
At Greater Plains Elementary, students were given the true VIP treatment as they arrived on a special blue carpet, creating a memorable and exciting start to their first day. As the morning went on, classrooms were filled with students settling in, meeting their new teachers, and getting to know their classmates while beginning the journey of a new year together.
The celebration continued at Riverside Elementary, where music played and staff members lined the sidewalks, welcoming home our Yellowjackets with cheers, high fives, and warm smiles. Hugs were shared all around as students headed inside to begin a year filled with growth and discovery.
At Valleyview Elementary, the hallways were filled with conversation and spectacular decorations that set a joyful and welcoming tone. Many students sought out their teachers from last year, giving big hugs and sharing tales of their summer adventures. The excitement was contagious as they embraced the start of a new school year.
The Oneonta Middle School team proudly wore their OMS gear and was ready to guide students through the busy first day. They offered help with schedules, directions, and first day jitters, ensuring that everyone, especially those new to the building, felt supported and ready to take on the year with confidence.
The day at Oneonta High School began in the auditorium with a spirited assembly led by Principal Stevens and Vice Principal Reynolds Conklin. The morning kicked off with a loud O-H-S JACKETS cheer that energized the entire building and set the tone for the year ahead. For the senior class, the day began even earlier with a breathtaking Senior Sunrise, a tradition that marked the beginning of their final year together. Throughout the day, students could be seen reconnecting face to face, sharing stories and laughter during study halls and over lunch.
Though every building looked a little different, the celebrations were all the same, a true reflection of how much we love our students and the pride we feel in welcoming them back. As the first day came to a close, it was clear that this year holds something special for OCSD. From blue carpets and spectacular decorations to heartfelt reunions and spirited traditions, the day reflected the heart of our district, a community that celebrates, supports, and grows together.
To our families and community, thank you for sharing your truly incredible children with us. We look forward to celebrating every achievement, both big and small, and to the countless memories we will make together throughout the 2025-2026 school year!
