The Oneonta City School District proudly welcomed nine new hires today, August 12, at our annual New Yellowjacket Orientation, hosted by Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, Coleen Moore. Among them are three OHS alumni who have returned to the nest, ready to give back to the school community that shaped them.

The day began with light refreshments and an introductory activity that set a warm, welcoming tone. Superintendent Thomas Brindley then shared The History of Us, reflecting on the district’s humble beginnings and the bigger story these new educators will now help write. Each will leave their own mark on the Yellowjacket legacy.

Next, Director of Student Support Services Amanda Mathewson highlighted the many resources available to help staff support students in every facet of learning and life. Business Manager Kellie Renwick followed with an overview of benefits, payroll, and retirement, covering the essential operations that keep our team thriving.

Reggie McGuinness from human resources, joined by BOCES staff, introduced the district’s attendance system and other supports designed to set new educators up for success. A tour of the district office followed, where new staff met many of the people who work behind the scenes to keep the district running smoothly. A shared lunch offered time to connect with colleagues and start building relationships.

In the afternoon, Library Media Specialists, Rae Sobers and Mary Beth Stalder, along with IT team member Ryan Greenberg, helped ensure everyone was ready with the tools and technology they will need. Coleen closed the day with additional guidance and encouragement for the year ahead.

Tomorrow, our new Yellowjackets will meet with their mentors and continue preparing for an exciting first year at the Oneonta City School District. We are fortunate to have such dedicated and talented individuals joining our team, and we look forward to seeing them bring Yellowjacket pride to every classroom, hallway, and corner of our community.

GO ‘JACKETS!
