Voting Information

Where Do I Vote?
The Foothills Performing Arts Center, 24 Market Street, Oneonta
The City of Oneonta has made accommodations to its scheduled construction on Market Street. Traffic will be able to access the polling site.

Voter Qualifications:

To vote in the 2024 Budget Vote and School Board Election, you must be a registered voter and-

  • a citizen of the United States;
  • 18 years of age or older;
  • a resident within the district for 30 days immediately preceding May 21, 2024; and
  • not otherwise prohibited from voting under Election Law.

Voter Registration:

The voter registration deadline is May 7, 2024

If a qualified voter has previously registered with the district or with the county board of elections, they are eligible to vote in the May 21, 2024, Annual District Meeting and Election without re-registering.

All others who did not register for the general election held on November 7, 2023, or who are permanently registered but, at the time of such registration, resided in a school election district other than the one in which he presently resides or has not voted in an intervening election must present himself personally for registration in order to be entitled to vote at said annual election.

Absentee Ballots
On September 20, 2023, Governor Hochul signed Chapter 481 of the Laws of 2023, establishing the New York Early Mail Voter Act. This newly enacted legislation, which took effect on January 1, 2024, and applies to all elections moving forward, establishes an additional method of voting early by mail.

Qualified voters of the district may download an early mail ballot application here or pick one up at the District Office. If the application requests the early mail ballot be mailed, the application must be received by the district clerk no later than 3:30 p.m. on May 14, 2024. Otherwise, the application may be personally delivered to the district clerk no later than the day before the election. Applications may not be submitted more than 30 days before the election.

Early mail ballots must be received by the district clerk by 5 p.m. on May 21, 2024, to be canvassed.

BUDGET VOTE
Public Budget Hearing
The Board of Education will hold a public budget hearing at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, in the Oneonta Senior High School Cafeteria. 

Propositions on the Ballot
  • 2024-2025 School Budget 
     Shall the following resolution be adopted, to wit:  Resolved, that the Board of Education of the Oneonta City School District be, and hereby is, authorized to spend the sum of $46,111,901 for the school year 2024-2025 and to levy the necessary tax for the above purposes. 
  • Proposition No. I- Purchase of School Buses
     Shall the March 20, 2024 bond resolution authorizing the purchase of (1) one 66-passenger school bus, (1) one 30-passenger bus and (1) one 7-passenger van for student transport for the City School District of the City of Oneonta, at a maximum cost of $349,185; authorizing the issuance of up to $349,185 bonds (five year maximum maturity); providing for a tax levy therefor in annual installments; pledging the District's faith and credit for debt service; delegating powers with respect to bonds and notes; and providing for an estoppel procedure, be approved?
  • Proposition No. II- Capital Reserve Fund
     Shall the following resolution be adopted, to wit: RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the City School District of the City of Oneonta, is hereby authorized to expend $2,000,000 from the Capital Reserve Fund on the capital improvement project approved by the voters on December 18, 2023 which will reduce the amount of bonds to be issued therefor.


SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION
Three members will be elected to the OCSD Board of Education. Two members of the Board of Education, each to serve three (3) year terms, commencing on July 1, 2024 and expiring on June 30, 2027, to elect one member of the Board of Education, to serve the remainder of a vacated seat the term for this seat is July 1, 2024 and expiring on June 30, 2025. The two candidates receiving the highest number of votes will each be elected to an at-large full three-year term from July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2027. The candidate with the next highest vote will fill the remainder of the vacated seat for a one year from July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025.
