How often is homework assigned?

Every night. This may involve reading, answering questions, using vocabulary, or preparing an essay. For each unit, I will give you a calendar of assignments and due dates and a packet of worksheets.

What are my responsibilities in regards to homework?

You must complete and submit all assignments on time. You are responsible for making up homework missed due to any absence from class (illness, sports event, music lesson, special presentations, etc.) You work must be legible and must be proofread. I do not accept late work.

What happens if I have a legitimate reason for not completing my homework?

You are given your assignments in advance in order to work around your other obligations. It is your responsibility to bring in a note signed by your parent(s) explaining the circumstances. An extension may or may not be granted depending on the circumstances.

How often are tests and quizzes given?

Reading quizzes are given daily. These quizzes cannot be retaken or taken on a later date.
Tests are given at the end of each unit. Most of the time, these will be essay exams. You will always be given some information about the test question and an opportunity to prepare for the question in advance.

What happens if I am absent from class the day of the test or quiz?

You do not need to make up reading quizzes if you are absent.
You are expected to take a test if you are in school the day of the test.
If you miss a test, you should make it up during your first available study hall.
If you are going on a planned vacation, I expect you to take the test BEFORE you leave for vacation.

Do you drop the lowest grades?

Are there make-up exams for low grades on tests and quizzes?

No, but there are many exams, quizzes, presentations, and projects during a quarter. All of these grades help bring up a bad grade on a test or quiz.

Can I submit extra credit work?

No, but I am available to help during school and after school. I am also available during the day. English Support can be provided for any student having difficulties.
