Physical Education is mandated by New York State. Students must take, and pass, two credits of PE before graduating their senior year. Each year is considered a ½ credit since students take PE every other day.
Grading:
· Students will be graded on a 5 point daily rubric
· Your daily grade will count for 90% of your quarterly average
· The other 10% will be based on written assignments, quizzes or fitness tests
Rubric Breakdown:
- Please see rubric on the back
Fitnessgram Fitness Test: (Beginning and End of Year)
· PACER test
· 1 mile run / walk
· Curl ups / Push ups
Appropriate Attire:
Students are expected to change into shorts or sweats and a shirt not worn to school. Footwear must be sneakers and tied tightly. Clothing must be appropriate in accordance with the school handbook. If a student is not able to change into appropriate attire for class, but wants to participate and has sneakers on, they may do so for a maximum daily grade of 2 pts.
Locks:
Students are urged to purchase a school combination lock provided by the HS office for $5. Locks from home are not to be used and will be removed by the custodial staff after given a warning. A $5 lock can be kept and used for your entire HS career and returned upon graduating for a return of $5.
Attendance:
Attendance in PE is mandatory due to the nature of this course. Your grade is based strongly on participation and being in class.
Each student is allowed one absence each quarter without penalty or make-up unless it was considered a “cut” class. After the one absence, students are required to make up all classes unless prior permission for the missed class has been discussed.
To make up an absence, students should meet with their teacher and either get pre-signed pass to come to PE from their study hall to make up a class or complete a written assignment given to them by their PE instructor.
If a student misses class due to out of school suspension, they will only be allowed to make up a missed class by completing an assigned paper. They will need to complete a two-page paper on an assigned topic for each class missed.
Equipment Care:
It is a privilege to be able to have all of the equipment that we have. All equipment should be taken care of like it is your own. Any piece of equipment that is broken intentionally will be replaced at the cost of the student.
